The inspiration for the Bera quilted jacket can betraced back to the iconic quilted jackets popularised by Steve Gulyas and Husky in 1965, originally designed as practical, warm and comfortable outerwear for outdoor pursuits.

It was this timeless design that inspired Thakur Jangjeet Singh Bera and his younger brother, Thakur Mahaveer Singh Bera, to create their own versions of the quilted jacket for shooting and outdoor pursuits. What began as an appreciation for the comfort, warmth and practicality of the design soon became part of the Bera family's own tradition. Thakur Mahaveer Singh of Bera also created quilted pants, which he wore during chilly winter mornings, extending the practicality and comfort of quilting beyond the traditional jacket.

The legacy was later carried forward by Thakur Devi Singh Bera (current head of the family and the Thakur of Bera) and his Life, Thakurani Devyani Kumari Bera, who developed their own interpretation of quilted craftsmanship. Thakur Devi Singh Bera initially began making these quilted jackets for himself, inspired by the tradition that had been passed down through his family. His jackets and phulgars were greatly appreciated by those around him, particularly his family and close circle, who admired their warmth, comfort and distinctive craftsmanship. As interest in his creations grew, he began making the jackets and phulgars for royal and noble families as well and gradually promoted them among a wider circle. Over time, his quilted jackets and phulgars became closely associated with the Bera family and came to be popularly known as “The Bera Jackets" and "The Bera Phulgars". Together with his wife, Thakurani Devyani Kumari Bera, he further developed this tradition, creating quilted jackets phulgars and traditional quilted razais that combined warmth, comfort and fine craftsmanship. The Bera family's interpretation of quilting became more than just functional outerwear. It became a legacy of craftsmanship, passed down through generations, with every piece carrying the values of warmth, comfort, tradition and individuality.

Today, this legacy is being carried forward by Vaishnavi Kumari Ranawat the daughter of Thakur Devi Singh Bera and Thakurani Devyani Kumari Bera through her brand, House of Bera. Inspired by the generations before her, she has reimagined the traditional quilted jacket for a new era. Experimenting with luxurious velvet and corduroy, she has transformed the familiar quilted silhouette into distinctive jackets, elegant long coats, phulgars and contemporary pieces while continuing the family's long tradition of handcrafted quilting.

The name House of Bera itself carries a deeply personal family significance. It was gifted to Vaishnavi Kumari Ranawat by her brother, Kunwar Shaileshwar Singh Bera, giving the brand a name that represents not only the family's heritage and ancestral legacy but also the bond between a brother and sister. In this way, House of Bera became more than the name of a brand it became a tribute to the family's shared history and a legacy passed from one generation to the next.

The journey of House of Bera is also supported by Vaishnavi Kumari Ranawat’s sister, Yadavi Kumari Ranawat, whose unique ideas, creativity and perspective continue to contribute to the evolving legacy of the brand.
